That is when it crystallized in my mind that if I ever wanted my business to make serious money and pay me back, I would need Professional Salespeople and NOT sales impersonators. This was during the depth of the 1981-1982 recession and money was scarce, but I made a commitment to Sales Force Development.
I had already been in business for nine years and I knew that I wouldn't find good salespeople walking around just waiting to work for me. I knew that I would have to develop them. I tried every conceivable option that I could find, starting with all the motivational programs including Personal Power, Lead the Field and over twenty others. I hired out of town trainers at $5,000 a visit and local trainers at $7,500 a person. We used the most sophisticated hiring instruments the market had to offer and they made NO difference. After thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours WASTED, my results were pathetic. I decided to do it myself and figure out why most people fail at selling and if they could be taught to succeed.
It took fifteen years to find the answer and another six years to perfect the formula, but today I can take mediocre, underperforming salespeople and turn them into superstars who double and sometimes triple their performance and income. How would you like a
